First it probably ends next year, contract negotiation, and format change. etc.

For sake of argument, give the conference crown to the team with best record. Tie breaker, sos, head to head. See below.

In that week, instead have a play-in

1-8 stay like they are

9 vs 16
10 vs 15
11 vs 14
12 vs 13.

Let them decide on the field

this yr, we'd be seeing:

Ala vs USC
Mia vs Utah
N D vs Vandy
BYU vs Tex

The new 9-12, probably Ala, Mia, ND and Tex

So we'd then get

Ala vs Ore
Mia vs Ole Miss
ND vs Tex A&M
Tex vs OK

no 20 or 30 pt lines here. Plus the new group of 5, tournament. No extra games, because "conference championships" no longer have the meaning they did 20 yrs ago when the pac 12 and big 10 champs met in the rose bowl.

Its a new era, players getting paid, SEC and big "10" becoming super conferences, we need to allow ourselves to further imagine, and not hang on to the no longer relevant. I know its a lesser issue, except to the teams and players, but those people and their fans deserve more than being the lions in the coliseum. Cannon fodder. We have Div 2, and Div 3, No one would think about sending them against Ga or Ohio State. Group of 5 is the new Div 1A.

We fans, one way or another pay for all of this. Why shouldn't we get the best viewing experience?

The play in, replaces conference championships. then its exactly the same number of games. Only difference, net result is games we want to watch. No 20-30 pt jokes.

Joel Klatt, on the Herd.

"Group of 5 teams included solely to avoid an antitrust lawsuit. Its good for no one. The group of 5 should have their own playoff."

I've reviewed the bowl game matchups, what a joke. Maybe 4-5 will be 2nd tv watchable. Big changes coming. I promise you.

NFL...Since start of 2024, 80% of nfl games 1 score. wk 15, 5 double digit favs.

Yeah I like the idea of this past weekend being play-in games instead of conference championship games

Maybe the Group of 5 thing can be applied to the play-in tournament so that they aren't guaranteed a 12-team spot, but they have an opportunity to win a game and get in

Avocado....that might be possible. But I'd bet group of 5 is history, after the 2 blow outs in this yrs cfp. College fb, is no mom and pop shop. I believe I read 7 billion a year. Players can earn more nil, than nfl rookie deals. Theres simply no reason to subject viewers, those of us who pay for it all, to joke games no one will watch.

We'll see. take a look at the substitution games above and ask yourself which would be preferred by 97% of the fans.

Guys I realize I'm on an island, but group of 5 is heading the route of Div II and Div III. The schools that are serious about fb, will have to form a new equitable conference or accept the division 1B title.
Absolutely, there are teams that will suffer. But isn't worse for the serious fb teams to be excluded for cfb, to avoid being sued. Let me see a few years of go5 teams beating top 15 teams regularly I'll reconsider. Ditto for Tulane or JMU getting inside the line this year. But 45-7 could be nails in the coffin. Even from the GO5 perspective, shouldn't they have a legitimate chance to be champs?
The well funded schools simply have a larger deeper menu of talent to select from. On its face its unfair.

Notre Dame joining a conference might solve their problems. There schedule was very weak this year. Joining a conference would make sure they don't have a cupcake schedule every year.
